Influence of ultrasonic field on microcystins produced by bloom-forming algae

Under the background of algae removal and growth inhibition by ultrasonic irradiation, the effects of ultrasonic irradiation on removal of Microcystis, the concentration variation of microcystins (MC) produced by Microcystis in Microcystis suspension, and sonochemical degradation of microcystins in water, were studied in the paper. The results showed that ultrasonic irradiation could efficiently inhibit the growth of Microcystis, and ultrasonic irradiation shorter than 5 min would not introduce the increase of microcystins dissolved in Microcystis suspension simultaneity. Also, microcystins dissolved in Microcystis suspension would not increase as ultrasonic power increasing. Further research showed that microcystins were effectively degraded in ultrasonic fields. After 20 min ultrasonic irradiation at 150 kHz and 30 W, the removal rate of microcystins reached 70%.     

Separation and determination of ephedrine alkaloids and tetramethylpyrazine in Ephedra sinica Stapf by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry

A simple, sensitive, and reliable method using gas chromatography (GC)-mass spectrometry (MS) is developed for the simultaneous determination of ephedrine alkaloids and 2,3,5,6-tetramethylpyrazine (TMP) in Ephedra sinica Stapf. The sample is extracted with ethyl ether and submitted to GC-MS for identification and quantitation without derivatization. The column used for GC is an HP-5 (30.0 m x 250 microm x 0.25 microm, 5% phenyl methyl siloxane), and the carrier gas is helium. The detection limits for ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, and TMP are 0.4 ng 0.7 ng, and 0.02 ng (signal-to-noise ratio of 3), respectively. The reproducibility of the total procedure is proved to be acceptable (RSD < 2%), and the recoveries are above 93%.     

Synthesis of an enzyme-like imprinted polymer with the substrate as the template, and its catalytic properties under aqueous conditions

Transition state analogues (TSAs) have long been regarded as ideal templates for the preparation of catalytically active synthetic imprinted polymers. In the current work, however, a new type of molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was synthesized with the substrate (homovanillic acid, HVA) as the template and hemin introduced as the catalytic center, with the use of plural functional monomers to prepare the active sites. The MIP successfully mimicked natural peroxidase, suggesting that it may not be imperative to employ a TSA as the template when preparing enzyme-like imprinted polymers and that the imprinted polymer matrix provided an advantageous microenvironment around the catalytic center (hemin), essentially similar to that supplied by apo-proteins in natural enzymes. Significantly, by taking advantage of the special structure of hemin and multiple-site interactions provided by several functional monomers, the intrinsic difficulties for MIPs in recognizing template molecules in polar solutions were overcome. The newly developed polymer showed considerable recognizing ability toward HVA, catalytic activity, substrate specificity and also stability, which are the merits lacked by the natural peroxidase. Meanwhile, the ease of recovery and reuse the MIP implies the potential for industrial application.

To improve the key properties of nonlinear optical crystals assembled with tetrahedral functional building units

Nonlinear optical (NLO) crystals assembled with conventional non-π-conjugated tetrahedral functional building units (FBUs), generally referring to [PO₄] and [BO₄], usually exhibit weak nonlinearity and poor birefringence. It is currently proposed that partially substituting oxygen atoms with fluoride atoms in these FBUs could enhance these crucial properties. Hence, we investigated for the first time the NLO-related properties of NH₄BAsO₄F (ABAF), which was constructed from tetrahedral [BO₃F] and [AsO₄] FBUs, and enhancements of these properties were observed in this material, that is large second-harmonic generation (SHG) response (2 × KDP) and improved birefringence (0.03 at 1064 nm). Notably, both SHG coefficient and birefringence of ABAF exceeded those of a great majority of phosphates, sulfates, or boron phosphates and achieved a preferable balance. It is interesting that ABAF shows vast structural similarities to the typical NLO crystals Sr₂Be₂B₂O₇ (SBBO) and KBe₂BO₃F₂ (KBBF), which might be the partial reason why it showed improvement in these vital properties. This work may afford some inspiration for enhancing the key performances of NLO crystals assembled with non-π-conjugated tetrahedra.

We report a new nonlinear optical crystal assembled exclusively with tetrahedral functional building units in which enhanced birefringence (Δn) and second-harmonic generation (d_eff) were observed.     

含CexZr1-xO2三效催化剂设计的神经网络仿真与优化

提出一种含CexZr1-xO2的三效催化剂的设计方法,即利用人工神经网络来进行辅助设计.首先考察了影响三效催化剂性能的一些重要因素,确定了所研究的三效催化剂模型.然后采用共沉淀方法制备了一系列铈锆固溶体,并将它们作为三效催化剂的助催化剂.采用传统的催化剂制备方法制备了一系列负载贵金属的三效催化剂,所制备的催化剂在模拟尾气中进行评价,得到的数据作为神经网络的训练样本和测试样本,建立了神经网络模型,并初步进行了预测和优化.
